We met up with plus-size lingerie blogger, Mafalda Gomes, in her homeland of Portugal. She’s spunky, loveable, and extremely genuine. She drives a cute Fiat, is passionate about building a better relationship with herself, and it’s evident that she cares about everyone she meets. We couldn’t wait to get to know more about her eventful life.
When we chatted with Mafalda about the early stages of self-acceptance, a role model came to mind that helped start it all: Georgina of @FullerFigureFullerBust. Mafalda is known for putting it out there for social media to see. She’s a firecracker that decided to at some point submit into a lingerie competition wearing a bra and panties. She stated “Realizing that we’re all gorgeous in our own way was the biggest step to feeling good about myself.” We love her life journey to confidence and where it began.
We know that social media helps with self-expression. However, within the most recent years, it has had a lot to do with curvy body representation. “I feel like my life as a fat kid would've been a little bit easier if I could have had access to body positive communities while growing up.” Gomes tells us that we need to be more selective with who we follow on social media, as there are too many people that don’t bring joy, love or acceptance into our lives. She says, “we’re here to follow people who inspire and encourage us to be the best versions of ourselves.” To those people that don’t add value to our lives? Thank you, NEXT.

22 years - Mafalda shares with us that it took 22 years to start loving and accepting her body. Discovery, research, and love are what helped her embrace her own body and implement positive habits to better herself. “I used to believe that being skinny was the only way I’d be able to love myself, that it would fix everything in my life and sooth past traumas.” Finding an outlet to express herself and curb her daily struggles (muay thai, for example) has helped her a lot. At Halseene this is something we believe in & strive for: finding creative outlets to expand your life and all its journeys.

Being a secure, plus size woman is something we truly admire Mafalda for. She knows when she needs a break from social media, is enthusiastic about learning new ways to express herself, and her ability to find herself through the love of lingerie. We’re so thankful that Mafalda took the time to let us get to know her better. Keep kicking ass and doing you boo! XO
